Position Overview
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, providing essential support under the guidance of the Charge Nurse. This role involves delivering safe, age-appropriate care to residents by performing fundamental care tasks, including Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), mobility assistance, monitoring vital signs, and executing approved technical procedures. The work schedule may vary based on the specific needs of the unit.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. **Commitment to Exceptional Customer Service**
- Uphold the rights and dignity of residents at all times.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained.
- Engage in resident rounding as per established standards.
- Respond promptly to telephone calls and call lights, notifying the appropriate personnel of any needs.
- Address resident concerns and report any complaints to the Charge Nurse or manager immediately.
- Offer proactive assistance and comfort to residents and their families.
- Present oneself in a professional manner, demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of others.
2. **Resident-Centered Care**
- Deliver care in accordance with the individualized Plan of Care.
- Attend to basic resident needs, including hygiene, nutrition, and comfort measures as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Charge Nurse and healthcare team members in delivering care.
- Provide meals and nourishment according to dietary guidelines and care plans.
- Measure and document vital signs, reporting any unusual findings to the Charge Nurse.
- Maintain accurate records of all patient care activities as required by policy.
3. **Safety and Organization**
- Perform basic housekeeping tasks in the immediate patient area.
- Clean and sanitize personal care items following established protocols.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards related to fall risks, such as clutter and equipment placement.
- Ensure proper display of oxygen signage and appropriate storage of oxygen tanks.
- Utilize bedrails and alarms correctly, encouraging family involvement in safety practices.
- Ensure residents have all necessary supplies for their care.
4. **Emotional Support for Residents and Families**
- Provide attentive listening and establish rapport with residents and families.
- Acknowledge the family's role in decision-making and caregiving.
- Recognize and affirm the value of each resident's life.
- Offer a calming presence and respect any religious or cultural practices.
Minimum Qualifications
**Education:** High school diploma or equivalent required. Rising high school juniors/seniors in good standing may also be considered.
**Licenses and Certifications:**
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Georgia Driver's License preferred.
- Private vehicle insurance preferred.
- Certified Nurse Assistant certification required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
**Experience:** Less than one year of related experience is required.
**Skills:**
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Basic computer skills are essential.
