Certification Requirements- Specialized Skills: Proficient in administering chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and managing oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome.
- Critical Care Procedures: Experience with insulin drips, heparin drips, and maintaining high standards of infection prevention.
- Staffing Ratios: Aiming for a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with a maximum of 1:5.
- Scheduling: Flexible weekend shifts based on unit requirements; self-scheduling requests are encouraged to accommodate preferred working hours.
- Orientation: Initial orientation consists of a week of daytime shifts, followed by 36 hours of on-unit training with a designated preceptor.
- Unit Flexibility: Potential to float to other Medical/Surgical and Oncology units as needed.
Care for patients with various diagnoses, including:
- Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Acute and Chronic Leukemias
- Sickle Cell Disease
- Other non-hematological cancers and benign hematological conditions
- Clinical Competencies: Expertise in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, and utilization of rapid response teams.
- Patient Management: Proficient in feeding tube care, IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central line management.
This role is essential in delivering high-quality care and supporting the mission of James Cancer Hospital and Research in advancing cancer treatment and patient outcomes.
