About the Role

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Solar Engineer to join our team in the Renewables and Microgrid Team of the Energy Practice Engineering Center of Excellence. As a Solar Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing solar PV electrical engineering systems for commercial and utility-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop solar PV electrical engineering systems for commercial and utility-scale projects
  • Work with project engineers and managers to develop design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
  • Support company business development activities related to renewable energy projects
  • Monitor project progress to ensure quality, on-time, and on-budget delivery of projects
  • Develop solar PV system designs, including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount systems
  • Perform solar PV system energy production modeling
  • Develop solar construction and equipment specifications
  • Perform engineering calculations, including NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing
  • Support drawing production, including solar PV system one-line and three-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules
  • Develop bill of materials and PV system cost estimation and payback evaluations
  • Design DC and low to medium voltage power distribution systems
  • Support projects through the complete life cycle, including feasibility, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Participate in and present engineering work at client meetings
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project site
Requirements
  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or related field and 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in electrical design of commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems
  • EIT license
  • Minimum eight (8) years of engineering experience preferred
  • PE license preferred
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel desired
  • Experience with other software in the industry, such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, and Helioscope
  • Battery Energy Storage System and/or other renewables experience
  • MV AC Collection System Design Experience
  • Proficient with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855
  • Strong familiarity with utility practices, industry codes, and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP, etc.)
  • Able to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
