We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the University of California. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the management of creative arts and recreation therapy programs, including leading staff, volunteers, and interns, program development initiatives, and donor relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive creative arts and recreation therapy assessment and treatment interventions for patients, involving families as appropriate for the target population.
- Plan, develop, and implement individual and group therapy sessions for patients across the life spectrum.
- Coordinate program development and scheduling, conduct assessments and group and individual therapy with patients, and maintain accurate and up-to-date charting, data, and statistics.
- Organize and order supplies/equipment/inventory within allotted budget, support community and donor relations, and oversee service coordination with external resources.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical and administrative supervision of interns and creative arts and recreation therapy volunteers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree required (as per requirements of the profession).
- Certification or Registration in field of expertise or certification/registration eligible.
- Experience working with adults in individual and group-based interventions in psychiatric treatment of at least two years in duration (one year of experience if internship completed within the hiring department).
- Demonstrates skills, knowledge, and ability in developmentally and age/population appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrates ability to assess individual patients' developmental level, general medical condition, psych-social needs, and capabilities.
- Provides patients with opportunities for expressing their individual thoughts and feelings and provide support as part of patients' therapeutic support system.
- Demonstrates compassion and understanding in order to build a relationship of rapport and trust with patients and their families.
- Ability to communicate pertinent information and concerns, and coordinate goals with medical staff for optimum health outcomes.
- Demonstrates ability to plan and facilitate therapy groups.
- Demonstrates skills in oral and written communication that will allow preparation of medical record documentation, oral presentation, and conference presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with people who have acute/severe mental illness.
- Experience providing evidence-based treatments to psychiatrically acute patients in similar clinical setting.
