Fire Safety Equipment Specialist

Overview
Responsible for the upkeep and management of fire safety apparatus, while also constructing and maintaining training props under the guidance of the Fire Programs Director.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are essential:
- Conducts regular inventory and thorough inspections of all equipment utilized for fire and rescue training, both periodically and post-usage.
- Maintains comprehensive records regarding the usage, care, and upkeep of firefighting apparatus in line with national standards and industry best practices.
- Documents the maintenance and care of technical rescue tools, including but not limited to: ropes, struts, chains, hydraulic and pneumatic rescue tools, hoses, gauges, and pressurized air cylinders, adhering to national standards and accepted practices.
- Performs routine checks and maintenance on fire trucks to ensure they are in safe and operational condition, complying with national standards and relevant vehicle regulations.
- Inspects and maintains Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, cylinders, and refilling stations in accordance with NFPA standards and OSHA regulations.
- Undertakes repairs and maintenance on equipment as necessary; provides recommendations for servicing and new equipment requirements to the Fire Programs Director.
- Identifies technical requirements for all fire and rescue training sessions from the Director and ensures these are adequately addressed.
- Assists in the design, construction, and maintenance of training props as directed by the Fire Programs Director.
- Interprets and applies NFPA standards and OSHA regulations effectively.
- Ensures a safe working and learning environment, reporting any deficiencies to the Fire Programs Director.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Role
This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Experience: Background in Fire Safety.
Language Proficiency
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write straightforward correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to clients, customers, and other employees.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations in various units of measure, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, and to interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Skills
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to address problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certifications and Licenses
- Minimum: North Carolina Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Fire Instructor I certifications.
- Preferred: North Carolina Driver/Operator Pumps, and Qualified Fire Instructor II.
