Job Title: Commodity Merchant

At Shell Rock Soy Processing LLC, we are seeking a highly skilled Commodity Merchant to join our team. As a key member of our procurement team, you will be responsible for the procurement of grain and/or the marketing of finished goods to achieve optimum financial results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers to ensure good customer service and maximize profitability.
  • Plan, develop, and implement grain purchasing strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Understand markets, interpret industry reports, and stay up-to-date with changes in trends.
  • Develop knowledge of competitor activities and local plant operations.
  • Understand supply chain management, including available trucking and rail operations.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Requirements:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex and diverse amounts of information.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, independent thinking, and planning abilities.
  • Familiarity with the industry.
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
  • Self Confidence & Proactive.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in Agriculture or Business.
  • Minimum of 2 years Grain Merchandising experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Normal Office.
  • Heavy work (lift 30-50 lbs.).
  • Light work (lift 10 lbs.).
  • Very heavy work (lift over 50 lbs.).
  • Medium work (lift 11-30 lbs.).
