About the Role

Avangrid is seeking a highly skilled Distribution Planning Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Distribution Planning department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement distribution planning strategies to meet the needs of our customers and the company's business objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to perform comprehensive area studies, including voltage, thermal, N-1, and power factor assessments.
  • Process and analyze data from analytical software, power system study reports, and databases to identify distribution system deficiencies.
  • Apply established distribution criteria and utility engineering practices to recommend distribution automation devices and develop designs and recommendations compliant with program objectives.
  • Develop thorough understanding and application of distribution planning tools, including GIS, SAP, and Load Data systems.
  • Collaborate and interact with internal teams and industry peers on regional and divisional activities.
  • Assist during storm restoration efforts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in industry-related field.
  • Strong understanding of power system studies, including comprehensive area studies, power flow, DER, voltage, contingency, phase imbalance, power factor correction, short circuit, reliability, resiliency, capacity, and distribution automation.
  • Proficiency in power system analytics software, such as CYME, PSSE, and ASPEN.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
