Join Our Team as an Ophthalmology Advanced Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmology Advanced Practitioner to join our team at Mercy Clinic Eye Specialists - Ophthalmology in Springfield, MO.

About the Role

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, vacation, 401K, and CME. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, collaborating with a team of experienced ophthalmologists and advanced practitioners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document patient histories, chief complaints, and eye exams as appropriate for new and established patients.
  • Interpret and document select parts of special eye testing and outside eye records.
  • Assess and plan patient care, placing orders as necessary and in coordination with the subspecialists team.
  • Provide education and advocacy for patients with complex eye diagnoses and coordinate care within the department.
  • Function as a role model for ancillary staff in all aspects of patient care, including preparation of exam rooms and equipment.
Perioperative Care

The successful candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Providing preoperative education and advocacy for patients with complex perioperative needs.
  • Performing pertinent preoperative history and physical exams, and preoperative orders.
  • Providing postoperative care, including removing and replacing eye bandages, assessing postoperative wounds, and educating patients and families about postoperative care instructions.
Call and Administrative Duties

The Ophthalmology Advanced Practitioner will also be responsible for:

  • Participating in the call rotation, including after-hours call and working hours call.
  • Preparing charts for the surgeon's operating room cases, answering messages from physicians and patients, and participating in triage of emergent, urgent, and routine ophthalmology referrals.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must be a licensed Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of Missouri with completed PA or NP education program.
