Role Summary:

The Applications Specialist serves as a technical authority in biopharmaceutical clinical and commercial production, possessing a background in Sales, Manufacturing, and Engineering. This role involves delivering consulting services to a global clientele, either independently or as part of larger ABEC initiatives. The Applications Specialist is tasked with engaging customers and applications management to define and estimate tailored solutions and services for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This position is integral to the global Applications function and plays a vital role in driving profitable growth for ABEC in the region. The Applications Specialist collaborates closely with the VP of Applications and benefits from the support of specialized subject matter experts. The Applications team aids Sales in closing opportunities while ensuring that technical and commercial terms align with ABEC's overarching business objectives. The primary focus will be on expanding the Custom Single Run (CSR) customer base globally, while also supporting Stainless Steel Equipment (SSE) and Service opportunities. The successful candidate may be based in various locations and should be prepared for regular travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members to define and develop technical and commercial proposals, often under tight deadlines. Ensure prompt review and response to client requests for proposals.
  • Analyze customer performance requirements and devise optimal technical solutions. Coordinate with ABEC Operations functions (Project Management, Product Control, Engineering/Design, Automation, Quality) to communicate customer needs and gather relevant proposal content.
  • Utilize sound judgment and effective communication to resolve conflicting customer expectations regarding pricing, performance, or timelines.
  • Sales Support – Provide robust support to Sales, including strategic product advice for identified opportunities, showcasing ABEC expertise during client meetings, and training on product capabilities and differentiation.
  • Marketing and Product Management – Contribute technical content for marketing materials (presentations, brochures, website content, etc.) to effectively communicate ABEC product features, benefits, and unique selling points.
  • Assist in new product launches by training Sales teams and engaging directly with prospective customers.
  • Educate both sales and applications teams on product capabilities and differentiation. Act as a product expert during customer meetings, both remotely and in-person.
  • Support other functions such as Service, Project Management, and Product as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to Applications or other functions.
  • Monitor competitor capabilities and activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the VP of Applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Science.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in biopharma capital equipment engineering/design, bioprocess sciences, and/or applications/product management.
  • Proven ability to navigate both technical challenges and commercial scenarios.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in Applications/Product Management/Bioprocess Engineering is preferred.
  • Familiarity with planning and executing cGMP biopharmaceutical capital projects, from initial concept through qualification.
  • Knowledge of bioprocess equipment (fermenters, bioreactors, filtration, chromatography, CIP, Single Use Systems, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% globally.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus.
