POSITION OBJECTIVE

The role of the HANCO Emergency Medical Technician is to provide pre-hospital and trauma assistance within the boundaries of their specific certification level. This care must be delivered in accordance with the established medical protocols sanctioned by the Medical Director, as well as all applicable state and federal regulations.

HANCO EMS serves as the primary emergency response provider for the community and offers a diverse range of medical transport services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsibility 1: The foremost responsibility of the Emergency Medical Technician is to deliver pre-hospital and trauma assistance within the limits of their certification. This includes, but is not limited to: Scene assessment, Triage and evaluation, Extrication, Stabilization, Treatment, Transport, and Communication.
  • Responsibility 2: Employees are prohibited from recommending specific healthcare providers or facilities. All patients will be transported to the nearest suitable medical facility, with deviations allowed only based on patient preference, considering facility proximity, available resources, and the severity of the situation.
  • Responsibility 3: Accurately complete all necessary documentation, ensuring required signatures are obtained and providing the receiving medical facility with a copy of the incident report. Patient confidentiality is paramount; only authorized personnel may disclose information to the media. Discussions regarding incidents or company matters will be confined to debriefing sessions.
  • Responsibility 4: Diligently record all required information into the state reporting system.
  • Responsibility 5: Replenish all supplies utilized during service calls and ensure that all equipment is returned to its designated location.
  • Responsibility 6: Clean and disinfect the transport vehicle and equipment as necessary.
  • Responsibility 7: Engage in all debriefing sessions.
  • Responsibility 8: Stay informed on job-related updates in pre-hospital procedures and regulations.
  • Responsibility 9: Attend monthly training sessions or continuing education classes to maintain certification and licensure.
  • Responsibility 10: Conduct daily and weekly inspections of vehicles, becoming familiar with the placement of all equipment, including that on the Mobile Intensive Care unit.
  • Responsibility 11: Achieve proficiency in the operation of all equipment carried on each response vehicle.
  • Responsibility 12: Participate in maintenance of the facility and grounds.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a Paramedic from the Ohio Division of EMS.
  • Paramedic certification from another state must be converted to Ohio certification through the reciprocity process (ODPS certification must be obtained prior to orientation).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first month of employment.
  • Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within the first month of employment.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory (if lacking an Ohio driver's license, it must be obtained within the first month of residency in the state).
  • Must comply with company fleet policy, auto insurance requirements, and any additional requirements for vehicle operation.
  • Strong service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served in the assigned unit/department, including understanding growth and development principles and the ability to assess and interpret patient data.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Completion of NIMS IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 training.
  • Completion of NIMS ICS 300 and 400 training.
  • HazMat Awareness Level training.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification within the first year of employment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Completion of CEVO (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator) course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position involves physical activities that require significant use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and sitting for extended periods. The ability to lift and maneuver loads of 120 pounds or more with assistance is necessary.

This position is classified as having a risk of potential occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
