Job Summary

This is a supervisory position responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of water pipes and plumbing systems in the City of Somerville. The successful candidate will have a strong background in plumbing and excellent leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and work with a team of plumbers to ensure the efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of water pipes and plumbing systems.
  • Receive and transmit work assignments to team members, and enforce safety regulations and discipline.
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed, and review the work of team members for compliance with instructions and accepted trade practices.
  • Perform manual duties related to plumbing work, including installing and repairing water pipes, and making necessary connections.
Requirements
  • A current valid Massachusetts Master Plumbers License.
  • Two years paid experience as a plumber.
  • A current valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License.
  • Ability to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner, and knowledge of plumbing trade, tools, practices, and equipment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in inspecting and assessing work.
Work Environment

This position requires agility and physical strength, and the ability to function in close quarters. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, including wet, hot, and cold weather, and may be exposed to noise, vibrations, hazards, and atmospheric conditions including fumes, dust, and air contaminants.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds using appropriate equipment.
