Job Title: Maintenance Millwright

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Millwright to join our team at Nordstern Group of Companies. As a Maintenance Millwright, you will be responsible for performing preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks on our foundry equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions of foundry equipment, including aluminum melting furnaces, casting machines, and cooling systems.
  • Perform regular maintenance on aluminum melting and holding furnaces, addressing issues such as refractory repairs, burner adjustments, and temperature control.
  • Repair or replace defective machinery parts, focusing on critical foundry equipment like automatic molding machines, sand distribution systems, and core-making machines.
  • Monitor and maintain the foundry's ventilation and dust collection systems to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Execute maintenance activities on heat treat and aging ovens, ensuring proper temperature control and consistent product quality.
  • Perform regular checks and preventive maintenance on aluminum casting molds, ensuring they are in optimal condition for continuous operation.
  • Perform work order repairs, inspections, and adjustments for machinery used in aluminum casting and molding processes.
  • Clearly communicate with peers and other departments to ensure that priority jobs are completed on time and equipment downtime is minimized.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to plant emergency and breakdown situations, particularly with critical foundry processes that impact production timelines.
  • Be able to weld aluminum parts or have the ability/desire to learn aluminum-specific welding techniques.
  • Assist with the implementation and execution of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) principles, with a focus on minimizing unplanned downtime and improving equipment reliability in the foundry environment.
  • Participate in foundry-specific process improvement projects aimed at enhancing productivity and reducing energy consumption.
  • Handle purchasing of needed parts, equipment, and tools in conjunction with the Production Manager, with a focus on sourcing specialized foundry components.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of ladles, crucibles, and other equipment used in handling molten aluminum to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
  • Provide support in the maintenance and optimization of casting lines, die-casting machines, and robotic systems involved in aluminum parts production.
Requirements:
  • Must have a good understanding of fluid mechanics (hydraulics and pneumatics), and all of the components involved in these processes, such as valves, cylinders, pumps, and compressors, particularly as they relate to foundry equipment.
  • Must have knowledge or the ability to quickly learn about aluminum melting furnaces (both gas and electric), heat treat ovens, aging ovens, and sand-casting processes.
  • Basic electrical skills are a must, with experience in troubleshooting and repairing control systems used in aluminum foundry machinery.
  • Previous experience with automatic green sand distribution systems and automatic molding machines is a plus, especially in the context of aluminum foundry operations.
  • Must be able to work OT, Nights, and Weekends if needed.
  • Regular shift is M-TH, 5 am to 3:30 pm.
