Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex research, utilizing fee-based and value-added resources to provide timely and cost-effective results. Key duties will include establishing actionable intelligence alerts for attorneys, overseeing the department's resource management system, and supporting the firm's knowledge management initiative by identifying new technologies to support the practice of law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver in-depth research analysis to support client matters, utilizing independent judgment to identify issues and determine the best resources to provide timely, accurate, and cost-effective research.
  • Analyze, summarize, and customize results to meet the specific requirements of the requestor, ensuring that information is presented in a clear and concise manner.
  • Establish actionable intelligence alerts for attorneys on clients, potential clients, cases, and other practice or industry-specific topics, staying up-to-date with relevant developments and trends.
  • Foster strong working relationships with colleagues, outside libraries, vendors, and associations to ensure prompt service, leveraging networks to access the latest research tools and resources.
  • Prioritize multiple research projects while balancing tight deadlines, availability of resources, and cost restrictions, exercising effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Track time for client billing purposes, maintaining accurate records and providing transparent reporting.
  • Oversee the department's resource management system, SIMA, to ensure accurate records for the firm's research collection, streamlining access and utilization of resources.
  • Conduct detailed interviews with attorneys to understand and clarify the subject, scope, and purpose of the requestor's information need, applying active listening skills and empathy.
  • Ensure end-users are able to search, find, and access information through the intranet, promoting user-friendly interfaces and seamless navigation.
  • Evaluate the quality, authenticity, accuracy, and cost of research tools and new technology to be used in meeting the knowledge management and research needs of attorneys across all offices, staying ahead of industry trends and innovations.
  • Work closely with the KM Research Coordinator to ensure the management of and access to resources is streamlined and efficient across all offices, fostering collaboration and coordination.
  • Attend CLEs, seminars, webinars, conferences, and other training sessions, as well as read professional news, blogs, and journals, to stay abreast of new developments in KM and research resources, systems, and practices.
  • Participate in special projects and provide backup and overflow services as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school, demonstrating academic excellence and a strong foundation in research principles.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a law firm library or corporate law library environment, showcasing a proven track record of delivering high-quality research services.
  • Familiarity and experience with a variety of KM and research tools, including SharePoint, HighQ, Smartsheet, Kira, Drafting Assistant, Practical Law, SIMA, Westlaw, Lexis, Pacer, Intelligize, D&B, Bloomberg, Vital Law, Courthouse News, Courtlink, Derwent, and Docket Navigator, leveraging technical skills to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Fluency in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, using software applications to create compelling presentations and reports.
  • The ability to allocate and use time effectively to manage schedules, priorities, and deadlines, exercising self-directed work habits and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, problem-solving skills, and communication skills, ensuring seamless interactions with colleagues, vendors, and clients.
  • The ability to exercise independent judgment and self-direct, taking initiative to address challenges and opportunities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, delivering exceptional support and service to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • The ability to handle a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities, demonstrating resilience and flexibility.
  • The ability to work with vendors, attorneys, and other users to troubleshoot resource issues, resolving problems efficiently and professionally.

Salary Range

This position comes with a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
