We are seeking a highly skilled High Voltage Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, modifying, testing, calibrating, repairing, replacing, troubleshooting, and maintaining medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, test, calibrate, repair, replace, troubleshoot, and maintain medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.
  • Install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
  • Perform service on underground lines, substations, transformers, insulators, capacitor equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, ground connects, and similar equipment.
  • Determine jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procure materials, coordinate outages, complete work, and place systems back into service.
  • Respond to emergency calls and take necessary actions.
  • Plan the sequence of work and determine the nature of maintenance or repair needed.
  • Determine the effects that alterations will have on the total system and ensure that lines and equipment function properly.
  • Assist, review, and inspect work performed in-house or by contractors to ensure electrical systems are safe and reliable.
  • Maintain records and single line diagrams of UCI medium and high voltage systems.
  • Assist in directing the work of other workers and conduct, log, and report safety training for the high voltage shop.

Essential Qualifications

  • Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment.
  • Valid California driver license and participation in the DMV Employee Pull Notice program.
  • Availability to work overtime when required.
  • Minimum of five years' experience performing skilled high voltage work.
  • Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices.
  • Knowledge and experience to maintain and use personal protective equipment, insulating and shielding materials, insulated tools, grounding devices, and test instruments.
  • Current Department of Industrial Relations General Electrician (Journeyman) Certification.
  • Ability to use energy isolation procedures and special precautionary techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rigging Certification.
  • Experience in planning, directing, and training in high voltage work.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified.
