Position Overview:
The Nurse Manager for Medical-Surgical Services provides essential leadership and oversight for the daily functions of designated patient care units. This role is pivotal in ensuring the provision of high-quality, patient-focused care that aligns with the mission, vision, values, and beliefs of Bryan Health.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Uphold the mission and core values of the organization in all aspects of work.
2. Design and implement service initiatives that align with organizational objectives.
3. Foster collaboration across departments to enhance patient-centered care delivery.
4. Develop, execute, and monitor adherence to care standards and policies specific to the unit.
5. Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of nursing staff.
6. Encourage staff participation in committees and councils to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
7. Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patients, incorporating age-specific and cultural considerations.
8. Manage budgets effectively, analyzing and addressing any discrepancies.
9. Act as a chief retention officer, ensuring staff align with organizational values.
10. Facilitate ongoing education and training for staff to meet organizational and individual needs.
11. Assess and recommend annual competency requirements based on service needs.
12. Conduct timely performance reviews, focusing on staff development and retention.
13. Participate in product evaluations and decision-making processes.
14. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accrediting standards.
15. Promote evidence-based practices and address patient and staff concerns effectively.
16. Collaborate with the Assistant Nurse Manager to ensure effective leader/employee engagement.
17. Provide constructive feedback to staff regarding practice and safety issues.
18. Pursue professional development opportunities to stay current in the field.
19. Engage in meetings and strategic planning initiatives as required.
20. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in accordance with state regulations. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field is preferred. A minimum of three years of clinical experience in managing patient populations relevant to the service area is required, along with prior management experience.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification is mandatory. Advanced certifications such as ACLS and PALS are required within the initial months of employment.
