Position Overview

The Nutritional Services Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals while adhering to proper food handling and safety protocols. This role ensures that food is not only delicious but also served at the appropriate temperature and presented attractively, in line with established standards. Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment is a key responsibility.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of tenth grade education or higher.
  • GED or High School Diploma preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification is preferred.
  • Food Handlers permit may be required based on state regulations.

Experience:

At least six months of experience in large-scale food preparation is required. Experience with specialized dietary preparations is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review menus prior to food preparation.
  • Prepare meals for both regular and therapeutic diets according to the planned menu and supervisor instructions.
  • Make alternative food items to accommodate individual dietary needs and preferences.
  • Utilize proper food handling and safety techniques in accordance with established policies and regulations.
  • Ensure that food is prepared in compliance with sanitary regulations and company policies.
  • Document any authorized changes to the planned menu as per established procedures.
  • Guarantee that meals are flavorful and presented in an appealing manner.
  • Maintain organized and accurate menu records in line with company standards.
  • Employ standardized recipes for meal preparation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of safe food preparation and handling practices.
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition and food.
  • Proficient in large quantity food production.
  • Ability to read and write effectively at a level suitable for the position.
  • Strong communication skills with residents, family members, and team members.

  • Proficient in reading, speaking, and understanding English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
