The Kenaitze Indian Tribe is seeking a skilled Prep Cook to join our Food Services team. As a key member of our culinary team, you will assist the Chef and Assistant Cook in preparing meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and adhering to DEC and USDA guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with meal preparation, including salad bars, desserts, and main courses
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking; setup workstations for food preparation
- Perform as a team member within the kitchen, sharing workspace with other staff
- Refill juice stations, make coffee/tea, and fill condiments as needed
- Assist with cleaning the kitchen, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, and removing garbage
- Treat un'ina with respect and courtesy
- Adhere to the Kenaitze Indian Tribes policies, procedures, and Tribal Court Codes
This position requires heavy lifting, standing, and walking. You will be exposed to fumes, dust, and extreme temperatures. You must be able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization.
Requirements- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Minimum of 6 months experience in the culinary field or food service industry
- Experience working with the USDA, Child and Adult Food Program, or the National School Lunch Program
- Food Worker Card required within 30 days of hire
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification, or obtain within 90 days of hire
- Alaska Driver's License and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Basic computer skills
- Good oral and written communication skills with staff and un'ina
- Strong customer service skills
