Job Details

Transportation Technician II - Inspector

This position involves performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documenting contractors' work efforts on a daily basis.
  • Preparing project field books and documentation.
  • Preparing density log books and documentation.
  • Conducting material sampling and testing.
  • Assisting with the preparation of final estimates packages.
  • Measuring distances to verify the accuracy of dimensions of construction activity/layout.
  • Verifying levels, alignment, and elevation of construction activity/installations.
  • Observing work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications.
  • Obtaining and preparing material samples for laboratory testing.
  • Examining workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards and accepting installation.
  • Recording quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
  • Maintaining a daily log of construction and inspection activities.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate with four (4) years of experience in construction inspection, one (1) year of which shall have been in roadway or bridge construction inspection.
  • AAS Civil Engineering Technology plus two (2) years of experience; with at least one (1) year of roadway construction inspection experience.
  • Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
  • Complete the Critical Structures Construction Issues, Self-Study Course, and submit the mandatory Certification of Course Completion form (for structures projects).
  • Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Full complement of certifications, including QMS Roadway, Concrete, ABC Sampling, Borrow Pit Sampling, QMS Density, ABC Density, Conventional Density, EC Level 2, and DOT Intermediate MOT.
  • KSAs: Receives general instructions regarding assignments and is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems. Assists Senior Inspectors and/or Project Administrator with completion of specific tasks and assists in all phases of the construction project. Responsible for preparing backup documentation for progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration.
