Position OverviewAs a Field Engineering Specialist / Welding Inspector (FE), your primary responsibility will be to conduct oversight to ensure that activities are executed in alignment with the Contractor's Work Information.
You will be an integral part of a team tasked with fulfilling the Team Lead responsibilities outlined in the contract, ensuring that the quality expectations of the project are consistently met.
As a staunch advocate for our Nuclear Safety Culture, you will play a vital role in embedding this philosophy into all processes and activities associated with the project.
Your scope of work will encompass all tasks related to the construction of the designated project section, where you will monitor the activities of the Works Contractors through continuous, notified, and planned surveillance.
You will report directly to the Construction Superintendent for daily guidance.Active participation in site-wide management discussions and maintaining high levels of interaction and coordination with other operational team members will be essential.
Your responsibilities will include documenting and reporting findings to the Construction and Quality Team, ensuring that records are accurately maintained and appropriately distributed. In addition to reporting duties, you will be expected to adhere to, and suggest improvements for, company policies, procedures, and protocols related to construction, health & safety, and other operational functions.
This role will be predominantly site-based (75%) with some office responsibilities (25%).Key Responsibilities
- Verify that construction activities comply with contractual requirements and promptly inform the Construction Superintendent of any non-conformance issues.
- Assist in the preparation of non-conformance reports by providing detailed information regarding any discrepancies.
- Maintain proactive communication with other site teams to ensure timely reporting of surveillance activities.
- Contribute surveillance data to support Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Identify potential quality issues early to facilitate timely corrective actions.
- Support team directives to implement temporary measures that ensure safety and adherence to quality standards.
- Prevent unauthorized design decisions by ensuring all changes are formally approved.
- Enhance team effectiveness by providing insights into current and future site activities.
- Ensure that tasks are executed to meet the company's health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Develop a thorough understanding of construction drawings, activities, Quality Control Plans, and Quality Inspection Records.
- Monitor and ensure that Quality Inspection Records are completed and agreed upon before any work is concealed.
- Evaluate Contractor performance against the approved Quality Control Plan.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. A Welding Inspector qualification (e.g., CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) is highly desirable, along with a basic understanding of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
Higher-level qualifications in welding (CSWIP 3.2, IWS, etc.) and NDT (PCN or equivalent) are advantageous but not mandatory for this role.
Experience in large power plant design, manufacturing, and construction is essential, along with a solid understanding of Quality Management practices and processes.
Familiarity with the fabrication and installation of pressure systems is required, and experience in structural steel, welded pre-fabrication of reinforcement cages, and civil/mechanical interfaces is a plus.
Knowledge of piping systems, tanks/vessels, steel structures, and heat exchangers is necessary, along with experience in punchlist checks and QA/QC processes.
Broad knowledge of the Engineering Construction industry, including materials, trade methods, and legal requirements, is expected.
Excellent organizational, delegation, and communication skills are essential, and proficiency in French may be beneficial.
Proven experience in maintaining accurate and concise documentation relevant to the specific contract is required, along with a track record of effective collaboration within a large construction team.
Attention to detail in verifying work and materials is crucial, as is the ability to uphold quality standards in high-pressure environments.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with contractors are necessary, along with knowledge of relevant British and European standards, construction, and design codes/guidelines.
Familiarity with documentation used in safety-critical construction and fabrication environments, such as Inspection and Test Plans and End of Erection Status Reports, is important.
