About the Role:The Camp Nurse will provide health care and first aid services to our campers and staff, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all. This is a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team and make a positive impact on the lives of our youth.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide health and first aid services to campers and staff, adhering to all applicable licensing standards and YMCA policies.
- Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents, ensuring the well-being of all individuals.
- Accurately prepare and submit Accident and Incident Reports in a timely manner.
- Assist other camp staff members in the provision of health and first aid services, upholding ACA guidelines where applicable.
- Train and supervise staff members in administering medication, adhering to State Regulations.
- Organize and maintain health care logbooks, administration of medication logbooks, and camper and staff health records, ensuring compliance with State regulations.
- Compile copies of medical forms for campers and staff leaving grounds for field trips.
- Set up and maintain a clean and organized health service area.
- Consult with and obtain permission for any health care practices not in the standing orders.
- Produce and distribute written communication to staff regarding special needs or precautions related to specific campers each session.
- Order medical and first aid supplies, ensuring adequate inventory throughout the summer.
- Ensure that all medical supplies and medications are stored and secured according to State regulations.
- Assign a certified replacement for coverage of the health service area if leaving during camp hours.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and American Red Cross First Aid.
- 1+ year of experience in working with youth and teens.
- Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, or a Licensed Physician preferred.
- 1+ year experience providing pediatric nursing care preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmental stages and ability to apply knowledge to effectively care for campers and staff for routine care but also in emergencies.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to keep records and supplies in order.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn, and ability to adhere to, State of Connecticut Department of Public Health regulations relating to health care and administration in a day camp setting.
- Must complete New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter, Blood borne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, Employee Safety, and Hazard Communication trainings prior to start of position.
- Must hold and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid, Oxygen Administration certifications - required for job placement.
