Role of the Principal Concept Artist

The Principal Concept Artist will elevate the standards of quality, communication, enthusiasm, and best practices within the concept team, inspiring the art department while guiding the artistic vision and presentation of the game. You will challenge the visual boundaries across various art disciplines and are expected to adeptly address all facets of the game, contributing to an enjoyable gaming experience enriched with memorable art and design. A high level of proficiency in drawing and design, along with a robust understanding of art fundamentals, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership – Serve as a role model for the team, not only through the quality of your work but also through the enthusiasm and positivity you bring. Approach challenges with curiosity and energy, setting an example in communication and problem-solving while embracing best practices in your craft.
  • Environmental Design – Create inspiring environments that enhance gameplay elements, including mood paintings, schematic breakdowns, and asset callouts. Proficiency in 3D design is required.
  • Character Development – Produce concepts, silhouettes, action sheets, turnarounds, and expression sheets that aid the character team in developing memorable, functional, and diverse characters.
  • Innovation – Drive artistic innovation within the studio, encouraging the team to explore new possibilities and elevate the artistic standards.
  • Adaptability – Exhibit the ability to think quickly and adjust to evolving needs as they arise.
  • Team Collaboration – Strong communication skills are essential. Work collaboratively and contribute to the collective effort while problem-solving and exploring visual solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Over 10 years of experience in the gaming industry as a concept artist, with at least 5 years in a senior capacity.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a strong team-oriented mindset.
  • Proficient in traditional art forms, including sketching, drawing, and painting.
  • Expertise in 2D software applications.
  • Skilled in 3D modeling and sculpting tools.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine is a plus.
  • Strong time management abilities to meet project deadlines and milestones.
