Job Summary:
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Security Screener to join our team. As a Security Screener, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Waukesha Courthouse/Administration complex by screening the public for potential contraband or prohibited items.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide focused surveillance on incoming and outgoing traffic, detecting potential threats and suspicious behavior, and discreetly reporting to the Sheriff's Office.
- Greet and assist persons entering the public entrance of the Courthouse/Administration complex.
- Operate screening equipment, including x-ray machines, magnetometers, and handheld search devices.
- Inspect personal items and screen members for contraband or prohibited items, collecting prohibited items when necessary.
- Provide directions and general information to persons entering the complex.
- Report policy and law violations, and emergencies to the Sheriff's Office.
- May occasionally be required to escort individuals through the complex.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with employees and members of the public.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive.
- Ability to focus and maintain strong attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully interact with the public in providing direction related to security procedures.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stoop, and reach upward to heights of 6' or greater while conducting searches with handheld screening devices.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and listen.
- Ability to reach, lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels and varying temperatures.
- Visual abilities include distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus when monitoring an x-ray machine.
- Ability to take direction and follow orders in accordance with Sheriff's Office chain of command.
- Ability to work business hours and occasional evenings.
Working Conditions:
This position requires wearing a department-issued uniform shirt and appropriate business casual attire. No benefits are available for this position.
