Surgical Services Registered Nurse

Position Summary:
This role is contingent upon contract award. The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for delivering expert nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the operating room, circulating and scrubbing for surgeries, and responding to surgical emergencies such as cardiac or respiratory failures. The OR Nurse will monitor vital signs and communicate critical information to physicians, ensuring patient safety and care quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized nursing care based on the demands of the surgical environment.
- Enhance patient health by executing the nursing process; collaborating with medical professionals; providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
- Identify patient care needs by establishing rapport with patients and their families.
- Create a supportive environment by offering emotional and psychological assistance to patients and their families.
- Encourage patient independence by setting care goals and educating patients and families about their health conditions and self-care practices.
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to established standards and protocols; evaluating health outcomes against care goals.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment by following established procedures and protocols.
- Protect patients and staff by adhering to infection control policies and medication administration regulations.
- Document patient care accurately in medical records while maintaining confidentiality.
- Ensure proper functioning of medical equipment through routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Manage nursing supplies effectively by monitoring inventory levels and placing orders as necessary.
- Assist in daily operational activities and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Participate actively in Mass Casualty exercises and preparedness activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
- Ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Proficiency in English is required for effective communication.
- U.S. Department of State clearance or ability to obtain one is necessary.
- Willingness to relocate as required.
- A valid passport is essential and must be maintained throughout the assignment.
Required Skills:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Capability to function effectively as part of a surgical team in challenging conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Current unrestricted U.S. state nursing license; membership in a nursing specialty association is advantageous.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in military settings or as a government contractor is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience in operating room nursing is desirable.
