We are seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a key member of our Echocardiography Department, you will be responsible for performing echocardiography procedures at a technical level, providing high-quality patient care, and maintaining a safe and positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Duties:
- Operate ultrasound equipment with expertise, selecting the proper transducer frequency for each examination
- Maintain quality control of equipment and ensure proper use of technology in documentation
- Recognize and differentiate anatomical/pathological structures, including age-specific differences
- Assist patients in assuming physical positions for required examinations
- Render initial interpretations to referring physicians and deviate from normal techniques when necessary
- Patient Duties:
- Maintain a safe, positive, and professional atmosphere for patients, demonstrating interpersonal skills
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff
- Monitor patient conditions during exams and report unusual occurrences to supervisors or ordering physicians
- Clerical Duties:
- Perform various clerical tasks, including answering phones, checking requisitions, and amending orders
- Keep records of echocardiograms for cardiologists
- General/Personal Duties:
- Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and materials for procedures
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of exam rooms
- Adhere to dress and grooming policies
- Organize and execute daily tasks in proper priority
- Completion of an ARDMS-accredited program in Cardiovascular Ultrasound
- Experience in adult and pediatric echocardiography, adult stress echos, and TEEs
- ARDMS (RDCS) registration or eligibility and/or an appropriate credential in echocardiography
- CCI (RCS) registration within 9 months of employment
- Verbal and written communication skills, medical terminology, and concepts
- Ability to use proper body mechanics and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations
- Commitment to maintaining positive working relationships with hospital personnel
- 1 year of experience in a hospital setting
