Job Title: Bankruptcy Specialist

This is a hybrid position that requires the individual to work 2 days a week from a location in Cedar Falls, IA.

About the Role

The Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining loans and/or accounts affected by bankruptcy. Duties include reviewing and analyzing bankruptcy case filings, ensuring necessary documents are filed with the bankruptcy courts, and communicating with opposing counsel and/or members regarding bankruptcy affected loans/accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain records for bankruptcy affected loans and/or accounts via Veridian's core system and collection software.
  • Review and analyze case documents such as bankruptcy plans, motions, etc. filed by other parties (debtor, trustee, etc.) and respond accordingly to best serve the interests of the credit union.
  • Prepare and send required notices to members and/or their attorney.
  • Investigate and negotiate settlements on bankruptcy affected loans and/or accounts.
  • Prepare reaffirmations for bankruptcy affected loans and/or review and sign reaffirmations prepared by Bankruptcy Assistant.
  • Prepare and file proofs of claim for bankruptcy affected loans and/or accounts.
  • Assist external legal counsel in preparing and filing necessary court documents.
  • Consult with internal and external legal counsel regarding bankruptcy matters.
  • Communicate with opposing counsel, members, trustees, and court employees as necessary.
  • Using Veridian's core system and collection software, post payments to bankruptcy affected loans and/or accounts as needed.
  • Monitor discharged loans for payments and, as applicable, work to resolve delinquencies.
  • Monitor bankruptcy-related reports and industry trends and provide analysis on such data to assist credit union with strategic growth initiatives.
  • Participate in monthly charge-off meeting. Provide analysis on charged off bankruptcy affected loans.
  • Work with other credit union departments including, but not limited to, Account Resolution and Mortgage Servicing, on bankruptcy affected secured loans.
  • Assist other credit union departments and/or branches with bankruptcy matters.
  • Participate in credit union projects and initiatives as the subject matter expert for bankruptcy related matters.
  • Be knowledgeable of the laws and regulations pertaining to bankruptcy matters.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma.
  • 3+ years of related work experience.
  • Fluent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy procedures and related law.
