We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Spanish to join our team at San Diego Mesa College. Responsibilities:- Teach Spanish for Spanish Speakers courses for the Spanish Speaker program
- Serve as Program Director/Coordinator for the program
- Contribute to conditions for students to succeed both in the classroom and throughout the campus
- Teach beginning and/or intermediate level Spanish courses as needed
- Master's in the language being taught OR Bachelor's in the language being taught AND Master's in another language or linguistics OR The equivalent
- Evidence of recent and successful experience teaching Spanish for Spanish Speakers and a commitment to lower division language teaching with a focus on Language, Literature, and Culture to Heritage Speakers of Spanish
- An understanding of the community college environment and mission, and its impact on the future success of Heritage Speakers of Spanish
- Knowledge of and ability to implement contemporary philosophies and methods of instruction and assessment in the teaching of Spanish and Spanish for Spanish Speakers, including the integration of communicative learning activities
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to appropriate academic standards, especially the National Standards for Foreign Language Teaching and student learning outcomes for lower division language courses
- Demonstrated awareness of and ability to successfully use technology to support language learning/acquisition and student success
- Commitment to professional growth in teaching in the areas of Spanish language and linguistics and Spanish speaking cultures and literature through participation in conferences, scholarship, and/or other relevant activities
- Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and experience working collaboratively with colleagues, staff, students, and community members in a variety of on and off-campus activities
The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime.
Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period.
Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011).
Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
