Job Summary

Magellan Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Military and Family Life Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will provide critical support to military service members and their families, promoting their mental health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-medical, short-term counseling services to children and youth of military service members, including assessment, brief counseling, and consultation.
  • Develop and implement effective counseling plans, ensuring the needs of each individual are met.
  • Collaborate with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation and schools.
  • Participate in health fairs, base activities, and other events focused on children and youth, promoting healthy behaviors and well-being.
  • Enter counselor activity data on a daily basis, maintaining confidentiality and anonymity of service/family member.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth, providing appropriate linkages.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisor and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations and in facilities to which they are assigned.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a relevant field of study, such as social work, psychology, marriage/family therapy, or counseling.
  • Valid unrestricted counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-masters supervised clinical experience.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, in order to accomplish job functions, and to respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions, and to travel to locations outside of a military base in a variety of physical environments.
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a school setting, providing counseling services to children and youth.
  • Ability to develop trusting, helping relationships with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
