Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and check structural plans and specifications to ensure compliance with district standards and regulations.
  • Review contractor submittals and shop drawings to ensure they meet contract requirements.
  • Supervise and check the work of draftsmen in preparation of structural layouts and drawings.
  • Prepare and check cost estimates for structural components of projects.
  • Communicate effectively with staff members, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Considerable knowledge of professional structural engineering fundamentals, including concrete and steel design codes.
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed structural engineering design and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to express yourself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, or a related field, is required. A minimum of two years of full-time, post-degree structural engineering experience is also required. Full-time graduate study in structural engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitution and Promotional Requirements

One year of service with the District as an Assistant Civil Engineer or Assistant Structural Engineer, or civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications, may be substituted for the required experience.
