About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mold Design and Development Lead to join our team at Career Crunch.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the development, procurement, and validation of molds, ensuring that we utilize the latest technologies to design, produce, and maintain high-quality molds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing tooling strategies to support production goals.
  • Managing new tool construction projects.
  • Collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure efficient tooling design and implementation.
  • Managing the tooling repair department.
  • Designing and developing tooling for large-scale machinery, ensuring compatibility with high-tonnage presses and other advanced equipment.
  • Collaborating with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling for large-scale, complex machinery operations.
  • Monitoring tooling performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Designing and developing new tooling, fixtures, and gages to support production activities.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for all tooling and processes.
  • Analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and making recommendations.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to ensure quality and reliability of tooling.
  • Researching technologies for enhanced mold repair, maintenance, and construction of new and existing molds and ensuring improved performance.
  • Collaborating with engineering to assure new and existing product and tool designs are moldable and suggesting design changes or alternative processes.
  • Proactively seeking opportunities for Continuous Improvement by researching new technologies for improvements to products, molds, materials, and manufacturing.
  • Collaborating with vendors to bring alternative methods, materials, and equipment to manufacturing to improve molds and mold maintenance.
  • Assisting manufacturing in process improvement.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in the injection molding industry with a focus on tool design.
  • 10+ years in supervisory and management capacity.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Direct hands-on experience in mold design and construction is a must.
  • Experience working with large-scale machinery, including presses with significant tonnage (e.g., among the largest in the industry).
  • Proven ability to design and manage tooling projects for complex, high-capacity manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficient with 3D modeling software.
  • Ability to read and interpret moldflow analyses.
  • Background in working with various mold material and metal types.
  • Advanced experience in both cold runner and hot runner manifold systems.
  • Strong analytical, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating with teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills, and superior interpersonal skills for interaction with all levels of personnel and contacts within and outside IWT.
  • Proficient in presentations, technical reports, and situational analysis.
  • Good working knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusion, blow mold, thermoform, and others.
  • Background in working with various polymers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Travel is a critical part of this role and can be every week depending on the situation.
Salary

$150,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience.
