Position Overview
The role of the Athletic Trainer encompasses the provision of professional athletic training services tailored for high school sports programs. This position operates under the guidance of a school physician or through a formal referral from a licensed medical professional, while being supervised by the school Athletic Director. Adherence to the Standards of Practice Code of Ethics established by the National Athletic Trainers Association and compliance with New York State Athletic Trainers licensing regulations is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and sustain a comprehensive athletic training program aimed at enhancing the health and performance of student athletes.
• Deliver First Aid, conduct injury assessments, and oversee treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for student-athletes.
• Facilitate appropriate referrals to physicians when necessary.
• Maintain meticulous records documenting injuries and treatments related to sports activities.
• Administer baseline concussion assessments for both high school and modified athletes.
• Provide on-site coverage during home athletic events and practices throughout the academic year.
• Offer support at away games for varsity football and other sports during playoff seasons.
• Communicate regularly with the school physician regarding health care protocols and recommended treatment plans for athletic injuries.
• Collaborate with coaching staff to ensure effective care and treatment of student-athletes.
• Oversee the management and procurement of supplies and equipment for the athletic training facility.
• Equip each sports team with the necessary medical supplies.
• Assist coaching personnel in the implementation and assessment of sport-specific conditioning programs.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: Must possess and maintain licensure in accordance with the New York State Department of Education as an Athletic Trainer.
Special Requirements:
• Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
• In certain agencies, an appropriate class Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required.
• For positions in school districts or BOCES that involve direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is necessary.
Accountability: Reports directly to the Athletic Director.
