Job Summary
The Pharmacy Manager at Cardinal Health is responsible for coordinating, directing, and managing the execution of administrative and clinical activities in the pharmacy operations team. This includes optimizing procedures to ensure consistent and efficient delivery, controlling costs, minimizing waste, and delivering positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries, and dispatch of medicines.
- Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance, and monthly reporting.
- Implements process and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling, including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expenses controls.
- Manages day-to-day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals.
- Communicates with nursing, doctors, and administrative areas to provide alternatives and makes or supervises the preparation of intravenous drugs in the absence of medicines.
- Maintains pharmacist's certifications and maintenance of database privileges and access controls to medical records.
- Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist.
- Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks when necessary.
- Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.
- Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.
- Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross-functional groups.
- Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency, and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business.
- Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
Qualifications
- Must be a "good standing" licensed Pharmacist in the state of Colorado.
- 3+ years of hospital pharmacy and preferably hospital pharmacy management experience preferred.
- Ability to develop, implement, and lead all aspects of pharmacy operation.
- Ability to see, hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership skills.
- Strong customer orientation and negotiation skills.
- Pressure to perform in emergency situations.
- Overall decision-making responsibility.
- Ability to work on call or be in an on-call rotation.
- Customer/vendor credentialing is required (this may include vaccinations).
