Position Overview:

The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management is dedicated to fostering public safety through effective educational interventions that enhance the lives of youth, while also strengthening families and communities. Our educational division aims to create a nurturing and secure environment where students can prepare for college and careers, ultimately rejoining their communities as productive individuals.

We are currently seeking a qualified Geoscience Educator. The selected individual will deliver high-quality educational programming through effective instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of students, adhering to the standards established by the Commonwealth. This role involves engaging students in a comprehensive, competency-based curriculum that prepares them for entry-level employment and/or further education.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide engaging and effective instruction in Earth Science, ensuring alignment with educational standards.
- Foster a classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration among students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession or eligibility for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License with an endorsement in Earth Science.
  • Strong knowledge of educational content, curriculum, methodologies, and resources necessary for effective teaching.
  • Proven ability to manage classroom dynamics and supervise students effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in Earth Science or a related field with substantial coursework in various Earth science disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience teaching science at the secondary level.
- Familiarity with educational strategies for at-risk youth.

Additional Information:

Selected candidates will undergo a background investigation and may be required to complete a pre-employment drug screening. A valid driver's license is necessary by the start date of employment.
