Job Overview
- In accordance with state and federal guidelines, assists the pharmacist in executing pharmacy functions under direct oversight. Aids in pharmacy responsibilities adhering to company policies and standards.
- Oversees pharmacy systems to retrieve patient and medication information and manage prescriptions. Provides assistance and direction to pharmacy technicians in system usage and cashiers in handling pharmacy transactions.
- Exhibits and delivers a distinctive and enjoyable customer service experience.
Customer Engagement
- Interacts with customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Addresses customer inquiries to ensure a satisfactory experience.
- Sets a standard and shares best practices in customer service with team members to achieve exceptional service, including interpersonal skills and company service benchmarks.
- Develops strong connections with key customers.
Operational Duties
- Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supports pharmacy operations in compliance with state, federal, and company regulations. Adheres to the Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Performs assigned tasks from the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including accurately entering patient and medication information into pharmacy systems, filling prescriptions, verifying medication correctness, and ensuring smooth workflow. Reports any prescription inaccuracies promptly and follows company protocols regarding pharmacy errors.
- Strictly adheres to company policy on Good Faith Dispensing during prescription activities.
- Records all sales on the designated cash register, manages cash transactions, and assists customers in finding products as needed.
- Handles phone inquiries that do not require pharmacist attention, including calls to healthcare providers.
- Processes manual claims for third-party prescription services and performs additional administrative tasks as directed by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Leads pharmacy inventory management tasks, such as ordering, inspecting, and storing pharmaceutical deliveries. Maintains awareness of asset protection strategies and manages claims for order discrepancies or damaged items. Assists in evaluating pharmacy financial and service metrics.
- Supports pharmacists in delivering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples, and coordinating clinical services with healthcare clinics and providers.
- Assists in fostering relationships with the medical community and external providers to enhance growth opportunities.
- Contributes to maintaining a well-stocked, clean, and organized Pharmacy Department.
- Trains pharmacy technicians and cashiers in effective processes and tools.
- Complies with company policies, maintains positive relationships with colleagues, and completes assigned responsibilities.
Training & Development
- Maintains PTCB certification through training programs and/or state-required certification/registration.
- Participates in training sessions, completes required programs, and stays informed about healthcare and pharmacy advancements.
Basic Qualifications
- PTCB certification (excluding Puerto Rico).
- One year of experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital environments.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference for candidates with prior experience at Walgreens.
- Basic math skills and computer knowledge.
- Familiarity with store inventory management is advantageous.
