Job Summary:

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Optimization Engineer to join its team in San Jose, CA. This role involves delivering innovative solutions in mathematical modeling, optimization, and numerical methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer engineering, business, and software requirements to propose feasible solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, integrate, and document optimization applications for customer projects.
  • Support software releases and assist onsite/support teams with expert knowledge and problem analysis.
  • Actively research and own knowledge in mathematical modeling, optimization, market operation, power system analysis, and real-time control.
  • Provide expertise and represent the company in internal and external discussions.
  • Travel for short periods to visit or support customers worldwide.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electricity markets and at least 5 years of experience.
  • Work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with high-performance programming languages like FORTRAN or C/C++.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with optimization modeling tools like AMPL/AIMMS and optimization solvers like CPLEX and Gurobi.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Linux or AIX operating systems.
  • Experience developing power system application software for electricity markets.
  • Proficient English written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electricity markets and at least 2 years of experience.
  • Formal education in Electrical Power Systems Optimization and Data Structures and Databases.
  • Experience with Electrical Power Systems Network Modeling, Network Topological Analysis, Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimator, Security Constrained Unit Commitment, Economic Dispatch, Linear and Non-Linear Programming, and Numerical Methods.
  • Published research on large-scale electrical power systems operation, electricity market analysis, or system reliability.
