The RN's responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Standards of Practice: The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, which outline a competent level of nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordination of Care: The RN coordinates care delivery and transitions, ensuring seamless patient experiences.
  • Health Promotion: The RN employs strategies to promote health and maintain a safe environment.
  • Evaluation: The RN evaluates progress toward achieving expected outcomes.
Professional Performance Standards

The ANA Standards of Professional Performance describe the expected behaviors of RNs, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality of practice, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN is accountable for their professional actions to themselves, their patients, peers, and society as a whole.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. All newly hired RNs must possess current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification or obtain it within one month of hire.

Experience: This position serves as the foundational job description for all RNs, with opportunities for advancement through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Licensure: Candidates must be licensed and currently registered as a nurse in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged.

Special Skills: RNs are encouraged to pursue advancement through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Physical Demands: The role requires prolonged standing, walking, and the use of sight, hearing, and touch. Exposure to infectious diseases and the physical, mental, and emotional challenges of patient care is expected. RNs must be capable of assisting with the movement of patients weighing between five (5) and three hundred (300) pounds.
