About Arctic Slope Native Association
Arctic Slope Native Association manages the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital (SSMH). SSMH is a Joint Commission Accredited Critical Access Hospital located in Utqiagvik, Alaska. From this hub, ASNA provides a full array of health services at both local facilities and in remote surrounding villages.
Respiratory TherapistUnder the direction of qualified medical professionals, you will provide essential respiratory care to patients at our hospital. Your expertise will directly impact the well-being of individuals across various age groups, from neonates to adults.
Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough respiratory therapy assessments according to established protocols.
- Administer a range of respiratory treatments, utilizing diverse modalities, for both acute and chronic respiratory conditions as prescribed by physicians.
- Ensure the delivery of clinically appropriate respiratory care procedures. Provide guidance and education on respiratory care practices to medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Manage mechanical ventilation and oxygen support systems, including setup, monitoring, assessment of equipment/patient interface, and making necessary adjustments. Promptly notify physicians of any abnormal changes.
- Maintain secure and patent airways by performing nasal, nasotracheal, endotracheal, and oral suctioning. Evaluate test results for accuracy and clarity; review findings with colleagues. Distribute completed test results to physicians and relevant service providers.
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws after successfully completing competency assessments.
- Maintain accurate patient charts, enter diagnostic information, log data into patient information systems, and update file systems for tests and treatments performed. Provide clear patient education and instruction, answering questions and explaining procedures in a comprehensive manner.
- Stay current with the latest procedures and equipment related to respiratory care by maintaining competency and certification.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and workspaces. Recognize equipment malfunctions, make necessary adjustments, or refer issues for repair. Train and cross-train other clinical staff as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- A minimum of an Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training may be substituted for education.
- Two (2) years of Respiratory Therapy experience are required.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum Certification Qualification.
- Must be registered or registry eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- BLS certification is required at the hire date and MUST be maintained continuously throughout employment.
- ACLS, PALS & NRP are preferred at the hire date, but must achieve within six months of hire, and must maintain continuously throughout employment.
