Job Title: Systems Engineer - Behavioral Requirements and Verification

Waabi is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team in Toronto, San Francisco, or Dallas. As a key member of our Systems Engineering team, you will be responsible for creating, documenting, and verifying behavioral system requirements for our self-driving technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the creation, documentation, and verification of behavioral system requirements with a strong understanding of vehicle behaviors and interactions.
  • Act as a central point of contact for all matters related to behavioral requirements and related scenario sets, communicating updates, progress, and potential roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Help drive Waabi's safety culture through the application of safety standards and methodologies in your area of responsibility across all supporting teams, including Systems Engineering, Hardware, and Software.
  • Define necessary improvements for our highly realistic simulator to effectively verify all driving behaviors under all required conditions and work with other teams to get these improvements designed and implemented.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi's behavioral evaluation capabilities, looking for novel approaches, identifying and applying lessons learned, and ensuring detailed and comprehensive documentation that is easily accessible.
  • Implement tools and methodologies to streamline and automate the behavioral requirement processes where applicable.
  • Work with external partners on gathering data and information related to driving behaviors of trucks as well as supporting a strong safety case for the complete self-driving system.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree required; Master's or Ph.D. within an engineering discipline preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the automotive, robotics, aerospace, or related industry.
  • Experience with requirements and metrics for driving behavior evaluations.
  • Experience with building complex driving behavior scenarios.
  • Experience with methods and standards such as STPA, SOTIF (ISO 21448), and/or UL 4600.
  • Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering, and physics.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner.
  • Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab.
  • Open-minded and collaborative communicator.
  • Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions.
Bonus/Nice to Have:
  • Experience in launching a driverless product.
  • Experience in the automotive self-driving industry.
  • Experience building software systems from scratch.
  • Experience in robotics or machine learning.
  • Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.
