Patient Care Technician Intern

Position Summary: The Patient Care Technician Intern provides essential support in both clinical and non-clinical tasks within the designated patient care area. Collaborating with the healthcare team, this role is vital in delivering care to patients across various age groups, including newborns, children, adults, and the elderly. The intern will also engage in venipuncture and specimen collection in accordance with laboratory standards.
Experience: No prior experience is necessary.
Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine and specialized blood draw procedures.
- Assists in patient transport, serving meals, and managing hydration needs. Actively participates in ensuring patient safety and satisfaction.
- Accurately identifies patients, labels specimens correctly, and adheres to protocols for specimen collection.
- Responds promptly to patient calls.
- Performs hourly rounds to monitor patient well-being and reports any signs of distress or abuse immediately.
- Identifies and reports equipment maintenance needs.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment by managing laundry, delivering necessary equipment, and ensuring patient rooms are safe and tidy. Authorized access to secured storage areas is granted for job-related duties.
- Contributes to patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with patient mobility and positioning
- Observing and monitoring patients who may be confused or challenging
