Position Overview


The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant plays a vital role in facilitating various activities aimed at enhancing pre-language and language capabilities, oral-motor coordination for speech production, vocalization, and the utilization of assistive communication technology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering Speech Therapy services to clients in alignment with established practice protocols.
  • Participate in the screening process of clients to assess the necessity for intervention or treatment.
  • Aid in the evaluation of clients to ascertain the need for therapeutic intervention.
  • Adhere to prescribed treatment plans or protocols as directed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client performance and communicate findings effectively.
  • Ensure a safe and organized work environment while complying with safety standards.
  • Support the upkeep and inspection of therapeutic equipment.
  • Monitor clients during therapy sessions to gather and analyze data regarding their responses and progress, relaying results to the supervising therapist.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to discuss and evaluate client information for treatment planning and coordination.
  • Provide guidance to caregivers or family members regarding treatment plans.
  • Execute administrative tasks, including inventory management, supply ordering, and handling communications.
  • Implement selected care components and interventions competently.
  • Recognize client needs and demonstrate compassion and empathy towards individual differences.
  • Complete necessary documentation to support the provision of therapy services.
  • Conduct data collection and ensure accurate information is obtained.
  • Assess performance and document findings in the client's medical record.
  • Engage in discussions regarding client status and treatment outcomes.
  • Uphold ethical and legal standards in all professional practices.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and knowledge enhancement in the field.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in speech/language pathology and/or audiology from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

Minimum Experience:
Completion of an internship comprising at least 1,260 hours.

Preferred Experience:
One year of experience as a Speech Therapy Assistant.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
Active and unrestricted license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in Texas.
Preferred Certifications:

Required Courses/Completions:
Current CPR certification through an accredited organization, with maintenance of certification required throughout employment.
