The Immigration Law Specialist will be an integral part of a collaborative team, delivering legal assistance in immigration matters to individuals who have experienced crimes. This role will focus on a range of immigration cases, particularly those related to humanitarian-based immigration benefits such as VAWA, U Visa, and asylum. The position will involve managing a diverse caseload that includes affirmative applications, removal defense, and cases involving detention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual immigration consultations and provide know-your-rights presentations to immigrant communities.
- Advocate for clients before various entities, including immigration courts, ICE, USCIS, and both state and federal courts, in pursuit of relief from removal.
- Collaborate with community organizations and deliver educational programs to enhance community awareness.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and billing documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Active membership in a State Bar (membership outside of Florida is acceptable).
- Possession of a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in immigration law is preferred.
- Experience working with low-income communities is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to show sensitivity and empathy towards individuals who have endured traumatic experiences, with a strong commitment to serving immigrants and vulnerable populations.
- Capacity to manage a substantial caseload and maintain professionalism in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to balance and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across various teams.
- Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English is a plus.
