Certified Surgical Technologist Job Description

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures. As a key member of the surgical team, the CST is responsible for preparing and maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies, and providing assistance to the surgeon throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and Maintenance of Sterile Field: Set up the operating room by preparing sterile instruments, drapes, sutures, and surgical tools as required for each procedure.
  • Assist Surgeons: Pass instruments, sponges, and sutures during surgery, anticipating the surgeon's needs and responding accordingly.
  • Ensure Equipment and Supplies: Ensure that all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and maintained in good working condition, cleaning and sterilizing instruments post-surgery.
  • Adhere to Protocols: Adhere to all protocols related to infection control, patient positioning, and surgical safety, including assisting with counts of instruments, sponges, and other items to ensure nothing is left in the surgical site.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Team: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure smooth surgical procedures and optimal patient care.

Requirements:

  • Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.
  • Experience: Experience in a surgical setting is preferred, with a strong understanding of sterile techniques and operating room procedures.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures, ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
