Job Overview

The Pediatric Echocardiogram Sonographer plays a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess. This position is responsible for providing diagnostic cardiac imaging and detailed patient history and findings to the cardiologist, written and/or verbal. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of pediatric echo protocols and charging protocols for The Women's Hospital, Deaconess Riley Clinic, and Riley Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides detailed patient history and findings to the Cardiologist, either verbally or by documentation.
  • Ensures exams are performed within proper timeframe with unexpected findings reported to the Cardiologist.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of TWH and Clinic charging protocols.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pediatric echo protocols.
  • Understands processes for reporting critical value readings and tracking.
  • Responds to call-ins in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of imaging protocols to include reporting on PACS system.
  • Performs ultrasound exams according to ALARA guidelines.
  • Able to properly coordinate patient medical history and physical conditions with requested exam.
  • On call is required as needed for the department.
  • Provides Radiology Manager with necessary documentation and requested paperwork.
  • Assists in training of new hires and direct education of other medical staff members.
Requirements
  • The Pediatric Echocardiogram Sonographer must be a graduate of an accredited ultrasound program OR have five years echo specific experience and will experience additional job training with the Pediatric Cardiologist until approved to work independently.
  • RCS is required within 18 months of hire (or completion of cross training).
  • OB/GYN experience preferred. Training will be considered in lieu of preferred experience.
  • BLS is required within 6 months of hire.
