Job SummaryThe Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, these Patient Care Assistants play a vital role in implementing nursing plans, providing direct and indirect patient care that adheres to hospital policies and State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.
Responsibilities- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Document and report observations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and any physical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence.
- Assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients and with use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs.
- Provide or assist with non-medicated support care, collection of specimens for diagnostic testing, and preparation of patient for surgery or other procedure.
- Assist with transfers of patients to and from other units / departments and with discharges.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Must be actively enrolled in a Nursing program pursing LPN, ADN or BSN.
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience while attending an academic program.
