Position Overview

The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting standard radiographic, fluoroscopic, and portable imaging procedures within the diagnostic radiology department, including nursing units, outpatient settings, and surgical areas.


Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts imaging procedures as per physician directives.

A. Achieves a 95% satisfaction rate for imaging quality as indicated by repeat film rates.

B. Completes examinations in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accurate documentation of requests.

C. Ensures all requests include relevant patient history related to the ordered imaging.

2. Demonstrates versatility across various radiology functions.

A.

Capable of independently performing tasks in the following areas:
Routine imaging, IVP, fluoroscopy, portable imaging (c-arm and standard radiography), and GU procedures.

Must proficiently execute all examinations outlined in the procedural manual.

3. Ensures patient and staff safety from unnecessary radiation exposure.

A. Utilizes technical factors that provide diagnostic quality while minimizing radiation exposure. Shielding must be employed when it does not interfere with the imaging objectives.

B. All films must demonstrate appropriate coning and lead orientation markers.

4. Maintains knowledge of front desk operations and computer systems, reporting equipment issues to management and Clinical Engineers.

A. Capable of scheduling all departmental examinations and notifying supervisors as needed.

B. Proficient in using centralized transport systems for patient movement.

C. Able to retrieve necessary information from computer systems regarding patient exams, including ordering, reprinting, or canceling as required.

D. Interacts professionally with other departments.

E. Effectively coordinates with on-call imaging staff as necessary.

F. Reports all equipment malfunctions to clinical engineering through the designated 24-hour contact. Messages regarding equipment issues are communicated to colleagues, either verbally or in writing.

G. Notifies management of equipment issues as needed (including paging during on-call periods).

5. Performs additional duties as assigned.

A. Remains available for various assignments as required.

B. Assists Radiologic Technologist students.

Engages in operational tasks related to equipment quality assurance, regulatory compliance (ODH, Joint Commission), supply ordering, staff scheduling, and departmental audits.

Additional Responsibilities:


Access to patient records during routine operations is a responsibility shared by all designated personnel.

Access is restricted to records pertinent to patient care or regulatory obligations and is only conducted when necessary to fulfill duties as part of the imaging team.

Confidentiality and safeguarding of all records is the duty of each individual.

This access may occur for the following reasons:

  • Pre-procedure preparation for scheduled imaging
  • During the procedure for patient care
  • Post-procedure follow-up on patient care
  • Quality assurance processes to ensure data accuracy
  • Conducting retrospective reviews for educational, research, or regulatory compliance purposes
  • Responding to inquiries from patients, other departments, or physicians regarding historical procedure records.


Documentation of access must be recorded where appropriate and feasible in log form, comments in EPIC, HIM, or McKesson, or other available formats.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION:
Graduation from an ARRT accredited Radiologic Technology program.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarity with medical terminology, isolation protocols, and sterile techniques. Proficient in patient positioning and operation of imaging equipment (x-ray machines and printers).

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:


Technologists must have successfully completed a program accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and be eligible for certification by the ARRT in Radiology.

As such, they can commence departmental and corporate orientation with the requirement that they obtain their ARRT(R) certification and secure a valid Ohio license as a Radiographer within four weeks of their start date to begin operating RGE.
