Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Echocardiography Specialist is responsible for executing diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures aimed at evaluating cardiac structures and hemodynamics, adhering to established standards of practice, policies, and the mission of Sutter Health. This role demands consistent proficiency in performing a variety of echocardiography procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiograms.
  • Administer exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
  • Perform agitated saline (bubble) studies.
  • Execute UEA (ultrasound enhancing agent) echocardiograms.

Compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and policies is essential to ensure patient privacy and safety while delivering exceptional care.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.

Certification & Licensure:

For Level I or II:

  • RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer or ARDMS (RDCS AE for adult or RDCS PE for pediatric).
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider.

For Level III:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider.
  • Two of the following certifications:
  • RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer.
  • ACS (CCI) - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer.
  • ARDMS - RDCS(AE) - Adult.
  • ARDMS - RDCS(PE) - Pediatric.
  • ARDMS - RDCS(FE) - Fetal.
  • ARDMS - RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist.

Preferred Experience:

  • Level I - No prior experience required.
  • Level II - At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Level III - Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Intermediate understanding of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles and procedures.
  • Proficient in conducting cardiac sonographic examinations with a solid grasp of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey sensitive information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and healthcare providers.

Work Schedule:

Full-time position with variable days and a standard shift of 10 hours.
