Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Industrial Electrician to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As an Industrial Electrician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic equipment, as well as ensuring the safe operation of our production facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair electrical and electronic equipment, including communication cables, power distribution, and wiring.
  • Install, modify, and repair electrical and electronic devices, including programmable logic controllers and human-machine interfaces.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic issues.
  • Maintain involvement with operations of plant processing equipment and scale systems.
  • Demonstrate strong safety leadership skills and follow safe work practices.
  • Follow food safety and good manufacturing practices.
  • Work as part of a team to plan and conduct equipment repairs.
  • Receive work orders and review to determine tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Install new equipment and appliances, including utilities and electrical components.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC motors, controls, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical systems, and troubleshooting.
  • Computer/device communications using standard protocols, including TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Device net, Modbus, Hart, and Serial.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic/automation controllers, human-machine interfaces, hardware, and associated programming languages.
  • Platforms include Rockwell Automation, Siemens, GE, and Ignition.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing the buddy system or specifically designed lifting devices.
