Job Summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our facilities, including trails, roads, and buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exercise full range of supervisory duties, including planning, organizing, and directing a multi-faceted trails operation.
  • Manage and maintain cost records, prepare annual work budget plans, and implement a safety and training program to eliminate at-risk behaviors and environments.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to ensure project layout and design, construction techniques, hand tool management and repair, carpentry, painting, masonry, equipment operation, and road repair are executed efficiently.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with regulatory policies and mandates.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a government motor vehicle.
  • Class A (or higher) Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Ability to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Ability to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month.

Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, and operation.
  • Technical practices, including theoretical, precise, and artistic skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of materials and use of measuring instruments.
