Maintenance Mechanic Job Description

At Navy Exchange, we are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing various maintenance tasks involving construction and alteration repairs of our buildings and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance tasks in at least three of the following trades: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Plan and lay out work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, and own knowledge of construction or needed repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on washers and dryers, including cleaning lint ducts and vents, replacing hoses and fittings as required.
  • Recognize and repair faulty equipment, including HVAC units, domestic and commercial refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform electrical repairs, including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Use skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.
  • Perform painting and coating work, including applying coating materials with accepted trade devices and ensuring surfaces have a smooth, textured, and decorative appearance.
Requirements:
  • One year of experience in general maintenance practices involving the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment, etc.
  • Three years of general maintenance work involving a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting.
  • A recognized professional certification or license in one trade is preferred.
