School Nurse

We are seeking a skilled School Nurse to join our team at Lewiston Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing students requiring direct nursing services, preparing health care plans, and supervising the implementation of required health care procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Observe students regularly to detect health needs and provide appropriate interventions.
- Instruct teachers on screening students for health defects and administer medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
- Conduct parent conferences and maintain liaison between physicians, parents, and staff.
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention.
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
- Assume authority for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness in the absence of a physician.
- Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Implement board policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Conduct training for students related to handicap, health, and hygiene.
- Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Prepare statistical reports as required by the Department of Education, Department of Human Services, and Superintendent.
- Help in the formation of school health policies, goals, and objectives.
- Prepare a budget for school health needs.
- Serve on the Pupil Evaluation Team when student health problems are involved.
- Arrange for the exclusion of students in connection with possible infestations and contagious diseases.
- Monitor current immunization levels of all students as required by Maine law.
- Take part in the health aspect of kindergarten registration.
- Manage the school health services under the direction of the Superintendent and Principal, in compliance with school district policy.
- Bachelor's or associate's degree in nursing.
- Experience with handicapped children.
- License from the State of Maine to practice as a Registered Nurse and proper Department of Education certification.
