Mountmaker Associate

Job Title: Associate Mountmaker

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Associate Mountmaker to join our team at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. As a Mountmaker Associate, you will be responsible for fabricating and installing structures that safely support collections of artworks and artifacts while they are on exhibit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Fabricate and install structures using metal fabrication equipment such as TIG welders, drill presses, and milling machines.
• Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all work.
• Develop knowledge of proper art handling protocols and conservation practices.
• Organize time effectively to meet deadlines and lift heavy objects as needed.
• Communicate effectively with curators, art installers, and conservation staff.
• Travel to offsite locations as required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in fine art, jewelry design, industrial arts, or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of Mountmaking experience, with seismic Mountmaking skills preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of artifact handling or collection handling experience, preferably in a museum environment.
